La Société

Since 1971, the Société des traversiers du Québec (STQ) provides dependable and safe ferry services to the population of Québec and visitors. The marine transportation system maintained its importance and evolved with the passing years. Today, the Society of Quebec ferries oversees an extensive network that extends from Montreal to the Lower North Shore, to the islands-de-la-Madeleine. Its growth is reflected in the management of five sleepers service year maneuvering with its own ships and crews and the addition of 15 contracts in partnership with six ties combined with a seasonal service extra winter, and two maritime services.. Ministère des Transports du Québec's right -hand man regarding all that concerns marine transportation of passengers and maintenance of harbor substructures, the Société des traversiers is often asked to share its know-how in issues gathering many regional partners.

In June 2007, Cabinet confirmed the public status of Société des traversiers du Québec by tabling new legislation regarding STQ. Since November 2008, Norman MacMillan, Minister of Transport, has exercised supervisory authority.
